Ride Home Rewards Overview

The ConnectingVA Ride Home Reward Program is a valuable resource for commuters who use transportation options other than driving alone to get to work, providing peace of mind and a reliable way home when unexpected situations arise.

This program provides a free ride home or to a commuter’s vehicle when they’ve carpooled, vanpooled, rode transit or a commuter/passenger train to work should they have an unexpected emergency while at work.

Unexpected emergencies are illness, unscheduled overtime (no advance warning), sickness of an immediate family member (child, spouse, parent) or their carpool or vanpool left early. Join and download the app today to ensure eligibility.

Why it exists:

The program encourages riders to take public transit, commuter rail, carpools, and vanpools by taking the stress out of unexpected situations, so you know you’ll always have a way home.

Who it serves:

This program serves carpoolers, vanpoolers, transit and commuter/passenger train riders that are registered in the ConnectingVA app.

How It Works

Eligible commuters may use the Ride Home Rewards program up to 6 times annually from the ConnectingVA account activation date, with a maximum of 2 trips in any month.

When It’s Offered

Rides may be requested Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Ride Home Rewards service does not operate on weekends or the observed Virginia state and Federal holidays.

Requirements and Eligibility

Must have a ConnectingVA account and has completed the following information in their account profile.

  • Entered a valid email and cell/mobile phone number in the “Contact Info” section and enabled texting.
  • Entered the name of employer/company. Must be an official employer, not a home or public Wi-Fi location.

Must be a full-time or part-time employee whose physical work location is one of the Virginia counties, cities or towns listed in the Participation Guidelines.

Must have recorded six (6) carpool, vanpool, or transit trips to work in the 30 days prior to requesting a ride AND used and recorded a carpool, vanpool, or transit trip to work on the day of the request.

Commuters must be able to receive text messages. ConnectingVA uses text messages to confirm, arrange, and notify an approved commuter regarding their trip home or to their car.
